what did they ever do?

While on the plane, I had a little down time while Lincoln happily watched a movie and Booker slept, and I had some thoughts.....What on earth did my parents do with us kids while we were in the car for 14 hours at a time??? There were no DVD players, no game systems, computers were almost too large to even put in a house...and I complain about a 6 hour plane adventure, WITH a DVD player! I feel blessed.

Here he is watching....

and here is the result:

LOVELY!

what day do you go easter trick or treating?

around our house, easter trick or treating comes on february 25th, apparently.
while asking booker what we would do on the last day at grandma and papa's house, he answered..."let's have a party." "What kind?", I asked. "Halloween with trick or treating," he said promptly. "We may have a hard time finding Halloween things today, Booker...but what if we have an Easter party and go trick or treating?" "Yyyyeeeaaaayyy! We can go Easter trick or treating, mom! Can we dress up?"
this is promptly where this party conversation stopped (for two seconds) and then picked back up with the menu and activities that would ensue. after rummaging through my parents house, cowboys is what we came up with and both were thoroughly pleased with the results. so dressed as cowboys they trick or treated to all 3 doors at my parents house, in which they filled easter baskets with candy-filled easter eggs then came inside for a little easter ice cream (sherbert) with sprinkles (very important to booker these days!)
what a fun non-holiday activity to kick off a fun holiday...and a great activity to end a fun vacation with grandma and papa!

Yikes, my hat is a little big..well, so is the shirt I am wearing as a coat!
no, no, no, just a sec...can you see a glance of my spider boots!
studly cowboy
trick or treating fun
happy days.

Crazy 8's

Cute little Jami tagged me so here goes these crazy 8's: CAUTION, kara..this may be too many words to read..haha!:)

*Eight things I'm passionate about:
1.Living life to be happy by my standards
2.Paper anything (see below)
3.My children and their opportunities
4.Having an opinion when it really matters
5.My husband and being his cheerleader
6.Creating, creating, creating
7.The Gospel of Jesus Christ
8.Finding small ways to make people smile.

*Eight things I want to do before I die
1.Write and illustrate a children's book (multiple would be fabulous, but I will start with just one!)
2.I always WANTED to run a marathon...until I finished my first half-marathon..and the idea of this being the half way point threw the idea of a marathon completely out the window, however something physically challenging is still a goal..just haven't found something that makes my heart skip!
3.Go back to school and get a masters degree in something I can use AND make money at!:)
4.Own a paper store (I even told my husband that as long as I had a room in my house that looked like a paper store, and was always stocked, this may satisfy actually "owning" a store!)
5.Travel
6.SEE me and my family leave a mark for good in the world
7.See my children parent and be there as a support
8.Learn to organize to a T! (sooner rather than later!)

*Eight things I say often:
1. Totally..(annoying)
2. One...Two...if I say three...
3. Booker, why did I put you in the corner?(most of the time to remind me why i put him there in the first place..very bad parenting skill!):)
4. I love you.
5. Fantastic.
6. What song would you like to sing?
7. What do you feel like for dinner? hate this question because the response is usually..i don't care...and yet i ask over and over and over....
8. Things will all work out..

*Eight books I have read recently:
1.hmmmm..other than any book that has 5 or less words per page, there hasn't been too much time, so lets change this to..seven more books/magazines I can't wait to read!!!:
1.Pride and Prejudice (started)
2.Better Homes and Gardens
3.Martha Stewart
4.Ensign
5.Reader's Digest
6.any crafting..paper, stamps, cards, projects of any kind magazine or book!
7.browsed pottery barn & jcrew mags at same time..came up with many fantastic ideas for the homestead!
8.Family Fun magazine..a must have!:) thanks, anne!
I find reading to be one of my most favored activities, however because of lack of time, I also find it very annoying to start reading a book and then put it down for weeks at a time, then pick it up again, thus why so many magazines on my list...I can pick one up, read a quick story/article and finish it!:) I really do have other actual books on my "to read" list.

*Eight songs I could listen to over and over: there is no way in my life I could pick only 8..so here are 8 of my favs...
1. Divide Me...Kalai
2. Come Thou Font of Every Blessing
3. Everything or Lost....Michael Buble
4. I'm Yours...Jason Mraz
5.Find Out Who Your Friends Are..Tracy Lawrence, Tim McGraw &Kenny Chesney
6.I Got A Feelin'..Billy Currington
7. Hate That I Love You...Rihanna and Neyo
8. Move It..Madagascar soundtrack..(I love seeing my boys love this song!)

*Eight things I have learned this past year:
1. My family continues to be my refuge in life.
2. I couldn't live without my dear friends.
3. Don't put your thumb under a knife when cutting lettuce. yuck.
4. Hot glue is the bomb.
5. My husband is incredible in every way.
6. Potty training has been the least desirable parenting task in the first 3 years of parenting. by far.
7. My children make great playmates, help me not feel lonely, and have helped me hone the skill of patience. i love them dearly, really.
8. I have A LOT to work on.

Eight lucky friends who get to do the "Crazy 8's"!!
1-8: if you read this through and you haven't done so already...YOU!:)

Valentines projects

Here are the finished Valentines projects I have been working on.
The first is a book to my husband..I got the template here...and love how quick and simple it was to create...can't show the inside because he reads my blog!:)

Book for grandma...

Book for grandma and papa.

Some of the books filling...I loved how finished the pages feel by just adding a simple stamp.

I loved the look of layering simply with rub-ons and sewing directly on the picture...nothing new, but loved the effect on this small book!
Some other fun and easy valentines (or any holiday) projects..tried these and they were super easy and turned out so cute!.(these are Heather Bailey's take on them..didn't take a pic of mine!) Here is the the link to her website..scroll down to see how to do these projects and on her sidebar are free downloadable directions on how to do them..and other goodies as well..she is amazing!:)
Happy Valentines, everyone!:)

card club projects

Here are my finished card club projects for the month. The first is a valentines candy box with Hersheys treasures in them, wrapped in cute paper...I just made up a simple box that would hold 5 of these and a simple card to finish them off. I love that I can use this same design for any holiday or celebration by simply changing the papers, colors, etc..

This is the card I made for my second card club. I had to make something simple and quick because of my time crunch. I think it is much cuter in person...Looks like a speciman table to me! I love it!:) Got my inspiration from here.

i've been busy with valentines projects...finished products to come soon!:)
what are you doing to get ready?

Thursday, February 7, 2008

Here is your picture megan...its as still as i could get them!:) They love their stuff...I will get a pic with their animals soon! I love when you try to take a pic of your kids and I thought the best way I could get them to be still is to lay, however, there is always a competition with these two..Lincoln won this bout!

I couldn't resist to take this picture. Lately, Lincoln has only liked to go to bed if he has his favorite thing of the moment..Apparently that happened to be Pablo and the sword this afternoon..so cute!:)

what you do with too much time

Like I said, a little too much time on my hands, with things to do, but things I didn't want to do! So instead, I shirk responsibility and make my family into m&m's. Great coping skills!:)
